| According to the Borough Code of Pennsylvania
the essential duties of the Mayor are: To preserve order in the borough, to enforce the ordinances and regulations, to remove nuisances, to enact a faithful performance of the duties of the officers appointed, and to perform such other duties as shall be vested in his office by law or ordinance In practice this means that the Mayor is in charge of the Police Department and other departments of the borough that are charged with enforcing borough ordinance. Further, the Mayor is generally accepted as the official representative of the borough. Judy Piper was first sworn in as Mayor in January 7, 2002 and for her second term in January 2006.. Prior to becoming Mayor, she served on the Pen Argyl Athletic and Park Board for six years and has taught swimming lessons at the park of over 30 years. Mayor Piper graduated from Pen Argyl Area High School, class of 1965, and received a BS in Education from Kutztown University and a MS in Education from Temple University. Mayor Piper grew up in the borough and lives in her
family's home on Applegate Avenue. She is a retired public school teacher. |
