PUBLIC WORKS

            During the month of April the Public Works Department performed scheduled maintenance tasks and completed all requested tasks.   

 

ZONING/CODE DEPARTMENT

If you have a complaint about a property in the Borough you can now go to http://penargylborough.com/PABAdmin/images/PM_Complaint_Form.pdf or come to the Borough office and fill it out and return to the Borough Office.  All complaints are handled with discretion.  Anonymous complaints will not be investigated. In April the following permits were issued:  3 building, 1 sidewalk and 2 electrical.  Also completed; 12 rental property licensing registrations, 7 rental inspections and 13 re-sale property inspections. There were 4 zoning and I planning application processed. The Zoning Officer can be reached at 610-863-1821 or at zoning@penargylborough.com  

 

LOOKOUT FIRE COMPANY

            In April the Lookout Fire Company responded to 12 calls.  They spent 415 hours on calls and logged an additional 265 hours on drills.    Lookout Fire Company has a website: www.lookoutfireco.com  and facebook page!  Check there for important information about Memorial Day Carnival; 5/25/17- 5/28/17.

 

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

            Monthly, weekly and quarterly sampling was done, all are in compliance.  Equipment, plant and pumping station maintenance was completed.  Answered and marked 10 PA One Calls. 

 

 

SLATE BELT RISING

            Slate Belt Rising is looking for volunteers for committees that will assist the program to implement a community revitalization plan in the Boroughs of Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, Bangor and Portland.   Please contact Stephen Reider at 484-523-0900 or at sreider@caclv.org for more information. BOROUGH NEWSLETTER

            The Borough Newsletter is published each month following the Borough Council Meeting.  It can be found at the Borough Hall or on our website at www.penaryglborough.com .   You can receive the newsletter by email by contacting: manager@penargylborough.com and requesting it.  You will need to provide your name, address and email contact.  While on the web site make sure you like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!!!!!

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!     ITEMS OF INTEREST!

PA American Water Company-Residents recently received notification of a requested rate increase.  This increase would bring an increase of 17% and raise users of 3,630 gallons a month from $55.63 to $65.12.  That amounts to $195.36 a quarter.  This rate increase will not affect your sewer rates.  Presently the Borough sewer rates are only $96.00 a quarter for property owners using 10,000 gallons a quarter.   Council encourages residents to send a letter to the PUC if you object to this increase.

Free Community Wide Yard Sales- No permit yard sale dates are: 6/9-6/11 and 9/15-9/17.

Garbage/Recycling –Garbage collection is every Friday, except for June 2nd, delayed until June 3rd because of Memorial Day. Recycling will be on May 12th & 26th as well as June 9th & 23rd.  Garbage/recycling containers are to be placed on the resident’s property at the curb line and are not to be placed before

2 P.M. on the day before pickup.

Blue Mountain Community Library- Special summer reading program for children:  High Five Your Reading Drive! The program begins 6/12. Children are encouraged to read at least five library books and keep a log of their titles to earn a free book of their choosing from the Book Nook. An information packet will be available soon. Therapy dog Quincy will be at storytime on 5/10 and 5/11.  The public is invited to the next board meeting, scheduled for 5/17 at 6:30 P.M. Adult book discussion group selections:  5/16 – Glory Over Everything by Kathleen Grissom and 6/20– The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict.  Book group meetings begin at 6:30 P.M. Books are available for checkout. Save the dates: 6/5-Dine at Detzi’s Tavern; 6/16- winery fundraiser (more info coming).
